Phase V Restoration
The Township has completed work on the fifth phase of restoration at the Liberty Prairie Nature Preserve. Two grants from the Northeastern Illinois Wetland Conservation Account (NEIWCA) and the Lake County Stormwater Management Commission of $50,000 and $18,000 respectively have enabled Township staff to engage in an 8.5 acre sedge meadow and cattail marsh enhancement, stabilization of 1,000 ft. of Bull Creek running through the site, increasing and naturalizing of an adjacent buffer area, and to study the possibility of removing the Casey Road Dam, which creates an artificial lake near the restoration site. New work is being continued at the site.
